The Photo School (TPS) is an independent not-for-profit photography school and online resource dedicated to supporting artists working with photography.

Through online and hybrid mentorship programmes, courses, and workshops, we support artists in sustaining their practice, developing their photographic voice and approach, building the skills, mindset and resilience needed to succeed in the arts, and connecting with a community of fellow artists and practitioners.

TPS strives to become a hub of alternative photography education, offering free and lower-cost learning opportunities that prepare the next generation of photographers for life as an artist, while grounding their work in contemporary photographic discourse.

Our courses are designed specifically for early-career, emerging, and aspiring artists, addressing the unique challenges they face today. We recognise the wide-ranging barriers individuals experience - practically, professionally, financially, structurally, emotionally, and psychologically - and aim to provide a supportive environment for open and honest dialogue, pastoral guidance, and knowledge exchange, helping artists move forward with perspective.

TPS will recruit educators with a range of backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences to shape the ethos, content, and direction of the school, ensuring it remains dynamic, responsive, and grounded in real-world practice. Formal qualifications are not required as part of the recruitment process. TPS values experience, insight and engagement, and will serve as an inclusive platform for educators.
